There is no single way of accepting
Accept a disability it is not easy in any case. There are no right time or locations to be the same for all. Much, however, change if any disability is this fromchildhood or if it comes in adulthood.
When a disability is present from childhood
When the disability is this smalloften we do not live immediately in the first person, but thanks to the parents. They are to face for the first diagnosis, the fear and l’uncertainty. Accept a difficult situation is not simple, but when there are children, it becomes necessary to roll up their sleeves for their own good.
The school: the first confrontation with the difficulties
In the first years of life the child grows up in a protected environment. The real phase of coexistence and awareness starts with the entrance of the schooloften already in primary school. Is there emerge the first difficulty: the comparison with classmates, the differences, the limits, the barriers not only physical but also relational. It is at that time that the child begins to perceive that we are not like the others.
When disability comes in adulthood
It is different when the disability comes in adulthood. In that case it breaks into a life is already builtquestioning autonomy, identity, and projects. It is more difficult to accept, because forces us to reckon with what it was before. The question “why me?” it becomes almost inevitable.
Accept does not mean surrender
Accept a disability does not mean surrender. Means recognize the reality of their own to be able to live in a new wayrebuilding balance and ability, even when the path is difficult.
