December 10 is celebrated the World Day of Human Rights, established in 1950 to commemorate the adoption of the Universal declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948.
That act has laid the foundations for a common vision: every person is born with the same rights, regardless of origin, gender, disability, language, culture or social status.
It is a principle still revolutionary: it is not the person to adapt to the society, but it's the society that should ensure dignity, respect and equal opportunities for all and all.
What are human rights today
The human rights do not belong to the theory, but the actual life:
- to be able to study
- move freely
- express their views
- join the community
- access to the culture, health, information
Rights that they become real only when they are guaranteed to each person, without exceptions.
The rights and participation: inclusion is a right, not a concession
Protect and defend the rights today means to ensure access, inclusion and participation.
A person excluded, restricted, hindered or if you are not represented does not enjoy the same rights of others.
In this sense, to speak of inclusion it means to speak of fundamental rights.
Human rights and disability: a commitment still open
On the Day of December 10, remember that millions of people are still barriers that limit the the right to autonomy, personal freedom and social participation:
- architectural barriers
- barriers to digital
- obstacles to communicative and cognitive
- discrimination cultural
- stereotypes and prejudices
The The UN convention on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities fully recognises that the disability it is not a limit of the individual, but a relationship between the person and the environment. When the environment is accessible, inclusive and respectful, and everyone can participate.
Because this Day is still needed
This Day serves to:
- create awareness
- raise awareness the company
- counter discrimination
- promote the respect for each person
- ask institutional responsibility
- defend the right to full participation
The rights do not inherit definitely: to be established, protected and claimed.
On December 10, is not a date symbolicit is an invitation to look at the reality and build, every day, a company that does not leave back to none.
