1. What is the assistance ASACOM?
Acronym ASACOM means Assistant to the Autonomy and Communication.
Is a professional that tile students with disability, by encouraging:
- the participation to teaching activities and social of the class;
- the the development of personal autonomy (travel, materials management, school organization);
- the communication and interaction with classmates and teachers.
L’ASACOM working in collaboration with teachers, educators and family, according to what is established in the Individual Educational programme (IEP).
2. Who has the right to the assistance ASACOM?
Have right the pupils and the students:
- with certification of disability within the meaning of the Law 104/1992, art. 3, paragraph 1 or 3;
- that have needs related toautonomy, to communication or report.
The right it is recognized after a rating of the commission medical-legal ASL and formalized in profile of the operation and PEI.
3. The person who requires the activation of the service?
The request can start:
- from familyvia report the headmaster or the Office of Social Services of the Municipality;
- from the school, that puts the need in PEI and shall forward the documentation to the Municipality or to the Underground City, depending on the grade.
In general:
- Nursery school, primary and secondary: the jurisdiction of the Common residence;
- Scuola secondaria di II grado: jurisdiction of the City or Province.
4. What documents do I need?
For the service request ASACOM you need:
- Certification of disability (Law 104/1992);
- Functional Diagnosis or Profile of the Operation released by the sla;
- Verbal assessment of the severity (art. 3, paragraph 3, if present);
- The written request of the family addressed to the Municipality or the school;
- A copy of the PEI updatedsigned by GLO (Group of Operational Work).
5. To who should we contact?
Depends on the territory, but in general:
- to the Municipality of residence (office of education or social services) for pre-school, primary and middle;
- to the Underground City or Province for secondary schools;
- to school manager for internal reporting and for the coordination with the authorities.

- the Office of School Integration the ASL;
- the local associations dealing with inclusion.
6. When do I apply?
It is recommended to submit the request by the spring of the previous school year (generally April and June), to allow local authorities to arrange for September.
However, it is possible to present it in the course of the year, in the case of a new certification or aggravation of the condition.
7. How long is the service ASACOM?
The service is enabled for theentire school year and may be renewed each year, on the basis of the new PEI and the needs of the student.
The hours allocated may vary depending on the grade school, to the resources of the institution, and the educational need.
8. Are there other forms of support to the school?
Yes. In addition to theASACOMthe school can activate:
- Teacher support (Ministry of Education);
- Assistant hygiene-personal (Common);
- Service, and school transport for pupils with disabilities;
- A professional educator or assistant educational (for specific projects of inclusion);
- Support comprises logopedico through ASL or other organizations.
9. What to do if the service is slow or is not activated?
In the event of delay or failure, it is possible to:
- Write a PEC or letter formal Common and School manager asking for the immediate activation of the service;
- Contact l’social worker reference;
- Contact associations for the rights of persons with disabilities, or to the ombudsman;
- In severe cases, it can present a urgent (ex art. 700 c.p.c.) through legal or association.

Practical tip
