Double discrimination: gender and disability

Be woman and have a disability often means to live a double discrimination. To inequalities related genre add up those linked to the condition of disability, in crucial areas such as the lwork, health, family life and social participation. The women with disabilities are more exposed to the poverty, unemployment and exclusion.

According to the data on the basis of ISTAT, the employment rate women with disabilities is about 26.7%, against more than 50% of women without disabilities. Invisibility of the social and cultural

The women with disabilities face significant hurdles in living out their sexualitychoose to become mothers or access paths autonomy. Many health care facilities they are not equipped to ensure gynecologic care, and midwives inclusive. Motherhood, most often, it is still seen as a taboo.

In conclusion we may say that, in family contexts and welfare, prevails an idea paternalistic that limits the individual choices. This applies in particular to women with intellectual disabilities or mental, who are at risk of not being listened to, or do you consider capable of self-determination.
