Is a the phrase, which weighs a ton. One of those that are read only once and remain inside. Because behind there is only a rumour, but a collapse of the human total.
Is success in Mosman Park, a neighborhood orderly and quiet near to Perth. One of those areas where the pain should remain invisible. And instead, behind a closed door, a whole family has ceased to hope.
A couple of parents had been living for years in a condition of extreme physical and emotional fatigue. Their two children lived with a severe form of autism that required ongoing supportday and night. Next to them there were also animals of the house, an integral part of a family tired, but united.
Severe autism and caregivers only: when fatigue becomes unsustainable
Before dying, the parents left a note on the door:
"Do not enter. Call the police."
It was not an impulsive gesture. It was a decision was made in time, in silence, in solitude.
Inside the house there were no signs of violence. No weapon. No scuffle. The investigators found a second letter, detailed, in which the pair explained all the reasons, the schedule of the act, even how to deal with finances after their death. A farewell shiny. Heartbreaking just because it is aware.
System of care disabilities failed: the weight left on families
With the passing of the hours, the tragedy has taken on the contours more and more clear. Caregiver and people close to the family have told of years of requests for help rejected.
The australian system of assistance to disability had progressively reduced funding. The answers were always the same: the children were considered “too difficult”.

- Too much for a system that would support them.

What is now the world observes is not only a crime story. Is the failure of a mechanism that has left two parents who are exhausted and there is no alternative. It is the demonstration of the brutal and what happens when the one who asks for help is ignored, until they have no more strength to ask for more.
And this story is not just about Australia. Applies to each and every place in which the solitude is mistaken for resilience and the despair of weakness. Regards to all families with children with severe disabilities left alone to bear an intolerable burden.
Need a change of perspective radical. A cambiamento deep care systemsin public policy, in the culture that it continues to consider the disability a cost rather than a shared responsibility.
Because when a system fails, do not crumble, only the rules.
