1. What policies are in place to ensure accessibility in Italy?
- Law 13/1989 – Requires that new buildings or renovated are accessible. In condominiums, a condominium can install at his own expense a ramp or elevator, and the other could not oppose.
- D. P. R. 503/1996 – Regulates theaccessibility in public buildings (schools, hospitals, sidewalks, traffic lights accessible, buttons in braille).

- Law 104/1992, art. 24 – Extends the obligations of accessibility to private facilities open to the public, such as hotels and shops.
2. What to do if feedback an architectural barrier?
1. Identifies the type of barrier
- Structural: stairs without ramps, narrow doors.
- Sensory: the absence of tactile signage, sound.
- Cognitive: signs are unclear or confused.
2. Who to talk to:
- Public place (e.g. sidewalk, municipal office): report to the Municipality.
- Private building, which is open to the public (e.g. a shop, a restaurant): please contact the owner or manager.
- Condo or private building: contact all’the administrator of the condominium.
- Transport (train station, bus): report toentity manager ( local transport company).
3. How to report
- Get detailed information (address, photo/video, description of the problem).
- Send a report via email, CERTIFIED, or online form (for the Common), or via letter/email (for an individual).
4. In the absence of a response
- Send a reminder.
- Request the access to the records to check if it has already provided a solution.
- If the problem persists, please contact the Regional ombudsman or associations as LEDHA, FISH, ETC.
5. Timing
- Typically, the subject is the recipient should respond within 30 days.
- If the case falls in the PEBA (The plan of Elimination of Architectural Barriers), the surgery can be scheduled at variable times.
3. When the inaccessibility becomes discrimination?
