Disability, prejudice and stereotyping: how to build a society that is truly inclusive

In Italy, persons with disabilities face barriers, visible and invisible, they limit their participation in the company. Prejudices and stereotypes sono tra gli ostacoli più radicati, ma possono essere overcome with awareness, education and action.

What is really a prejudice?

Prejudice is a judgment preformed towards an individual or a group, based on partial information or incorrect.

It is often negative and limits the understanding of each other, creating invisible barriers hinder relationships and social participation.

What is a stereotype?

The stereotype is an image that is rigid and simplified that apply to a group, ignoring individual differences.

For example, think that all people with disabilities are “non-autonomous” is a stereotype harmful that limits the possibilities of each and powers of discrimination.

Because of prejudices and stereotypes hamper inclusion?

Prejudices and stereotypes:
