A true story of a rare disease, maternity and strength in disability
Not by choice.
Not for a trauma.
Not because he had ceased to feel.
A rare disease the stole, one after the other, the simplest things: speak, read, write.
She was trapped in a total silence.
And for anyone who would already be a tragedy.
But to her, it was even more so.
Because it was a teacher. A woman who had built his whole life on the words: to teach them, tell them, to live them every day with the children.
The greatest sorrow was not disease.
He was watching her husband and his daughter in the eyes...
and not to be able to say:
“I love you.”
He felt everything.
But he couldn't make out anything.
Start from scratch
La donna affrontò un intervento complesso: l’impianto di un neurostimulator in the brain.
"You was how to restart a computer", he says.
But restart no means go right back to work.
It means to start from the beginning.
He had to learn all over again what a life he had taught to others: speak, read, write.
In that period, his daughter began primary school.
And it is there that something happens that is extraordinary.
When the roles are inverted
Every afternoon mother and daughter you sat together on the notebooks.
The little girl learned thealphabet.
The mother riscopriva.
If she missed a word, she was the daughter to it with sweetness.
If she confused the letterswas the little girl to help her.
Repeated syllables.
Laughing errors.
We encouraged each other.
The daughter became a teacher.
The mother returning student.
And it is right there, between notebooks and laughter, the language she slowly started to return.
The fairy tales that they have returned the item
When she recovered a bit of security, he began to read fairy tales to daughter.
Often he stopped mid-sentence, locked.
The girl looked at her with gentleness and asked:
“Mom, how do you say?”
And she backed away to try again.
A word at a time.
So, day after day, the silence he started to give in.
Write to return exist
When the words are back, inside she exploded anew energy.
He began to write without stopping.
With the support of the family and speech therapist, has failed even to achieve a children's story.
Neurologists could not spiegarselo.
She smiled and answered simply:
"I had a teacher super talented.»
A battle that continues
His disease is degenerative.
Ha affrontato anche un breast cancer.
In recent years it has undergone various interventions to the head.
Yet it is raised again.
Clutching the hand of his daughtershe came back to write.
Does not know how it will be tomorrow.
But he knows one thing:
Write me a purpose.
Think of his daughter to a longer life.
This story not only speaks of the disease
Talk about this that often remains invisible:
the loneliness of people with disability
the daily weight on the families
the strength of the relationships, such as care instruments
the urgent need to tell these realities without pity
Why behind every disability, there are lives, relationships, strengths daily.
And too many of these stories remain in the silence.
Because telling it is crucial
Make visible these experiences means to change the the look on the disabilities.
Means to pass:
- compassion, awareness
- from silence participation
- indifference to thethe inclusion
The stories non curano le malattie, ma possono curare l’isolamento.

But they are rarely told.
Not because it's not important.
But why so often no one really listens to.
